@benbloodworth Lack of monetization options, lack of easily accessible analytics, and inertia are my guesses.
@benbloodworth it's happening albeit slowly. As with anything involving social media, once critical mass of users is reached adoption will accelerate greatly.
@benbloodworth
Because money and exposure. Not only do they advertise on the former birdsite, they probably make money by monetizing all their journalists' accounts. Even if they don't, they drive huge clicks to their own sites and make ad revenue that way.
Mastodon doesn't have ad revenue, monetization, or the users to support that. Kinda sad. It's part of why Mastodon is great, but it limits or rules out commercial participation. No money, (almost) no sports journalists except bots.
@benbloodworth
And the fans will be where the journalists are. There's plenty here, but nothing like the dead parrot site.
@benbloodworth I'm thankful sportsfedi is as active as it is. I would have expected it to be more dormant considering stuff like the NFL isn't typically what you'd expect on a nerd centric platform like fedi. I mean Eagles fans can barely operate a phone or pc without trying to assault someone, So it's been a pleasant surprise.
@Evol I have found like 3 other Auburn fans in the entire Fediverse.

Part of it is people have yet to agree on tags. That FireFish let's me do multi-tag searches makes it a lot better experience than when I was using a mastodon instance.
@benbloodworth
Titles who publish sports journalists rely on advertisers, who direct titles to promote themselves only where advertisers can advertise.
Big Tech eg Twitter & Facebook, penalise the shit out of anyone promoting themselves outside Big Tech (ie the fediverse), not only journalists, titles & advertisers but also sports teams, athletes, sponsors etc.
Why would any sports fan come here when the entire sports machine shuns the fediverse like halitosis?
@benbloodworth@mstdn.party
Honestly, following tags on mastodon is kind of a pain in the ass. So much easier on FireFish.
