There are no justifications for this war. Neither side is right and the war is between 2 fascist states.
Siding with Ukraine while ignoring all other similar situations around the world is the ultimate proof of hypocrisy of NATO and the west.
But of course, we need to listen to the stories of one side, rebroadcast and repeat them as if they are the ultimate truth and ignore the history and massive amounts of proof (both video and documents) widely available that says otherwise.
Wouldn't Ukraine situation be different if we had chosen the Yugoslavian model rather than the Israeli model to deal with this conflict?
What would the conflict look like if we had agreed to the 3 regions to become independent like Bosnia, Kossovo and Croatia?
But sadly the massive propaganda surrounding this conflict and portraying Putin as Hitler (which sadly was an ally of the Ukrainian national heroes) have made any negotiations and compromises, impossible.
Sadly, most people have strong opinions about this conflict, didn't even know Ukraine existed before the CIA backed coup of 2014.
There are no good wars and any bad peace is almost always better than the alternative push for escalating the war.

Your third paragraph is pretty funny to me, as that’s exactly what you’re doing with #Russian #propaganda. Like you, I think the #US has done great evil in the world. But unlike you, I don’t automatically discount everything I hear in US media, and I trust next to NOTHING that I read in Russian media.
Your second paragraph is in the same vein and shows the kind of confused thinking and hypocrisy that I see in other “radical peace” folks.

You imply that if we can’t pick a side in every armed conflict in the world that we shouldn’t pick a side in ANY armed conflict in the world. So, are you advocating for #NATO to be involved in MORE conflicts, or fewer?
Whose media and criteria do we use to decide when/if we should interfere? This is all based on the logical fallacy that large governmental organizations are capable only of one kind of morality...

...and that specifically, in this case, the harms that the #US has done to the world make it impossible for us to ever do anything good ever again. Even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and despite the multitude of sins that the US has to answer for, our support of #Ukraine is the most righteous thing we’ve done since fighting the Nazis and Imperial Japan in WWII.

Moving on, here’s the real background (sources; history, and people actually from #Ukraine) on why Yugoslavia is a poor model to use for Ukraine, and why some #slavic peoples initially greeted the Germans as liberators.
#Russia has been oppressing Ukraine and seeking to destroy her people, language, and culture for hundreds of years. #Kyiv was the center of #Rus culture from its creation until it was sacked by the Mongols in 1240.

@faab64 @lazarukb @wherephysicswentwrong@universeodon.com
The #Rus in #Muscovy agreed to bend the knee and pay tribute to the #Mongols instead, and as such avoided being razed to the ground.
But they never got over their jealousy of #Kyiv, and since then they have done everything in their power to erase the cultural legacy of Kyiv and Ukraine. When Stalin took over the #USSR he continued that policy of the Russian Empire, and #Holodomor was a direct result of that.

After killing millions of Ukrainians by starvation (or murder, or deportation to #Siberia), he moved in Russian settlers to replace them. (This is why eastern Ukraine was Russian speaking, btw). Western Ukraine was a part of Poland then, and they watched in horror as their fellow Ukrainians were starved to death en masse by the Soviets. In 1939 the USSR, along with their ally Nazi Germany, started WWII in Europe by invading #Poland.

@faab64 @lazarukb @wherephysicswentwrong@universeodon.com
In addition to murdering tens of thousands of #poles they also began applying their genocidal anti-Ukrainian policies to the people of #Ruthenia and #Galicia (areas that are now Western Ukraine). Is it a really a surprise, then, that when the Germans turned on their former allies in 1941, that some Ukrainians would see them initially as liberators?

@faab64 @lazarukb @wherephysicswentwrong@universeodon.com
Ok, let’s talk about #Yugoslavia and why balkanizing eastern Ukraine is bullshit. Yugoslavia was a patchwork nation of all kinds of religions and ethnicities that were held together by a single charismatic leader, Tito. After his death there was nobody strong enough to hold things together, and eventually the #Serbs (long-time allies of Russia…) kicked off a genocidal rampage that led to #NATO intervention and the #Balkans as we know them today.

@faab64 @lazarukb @wherephysicswentwrong@universeodon.com
#Luhansk and #Donetsk are are not #Bosnia and #Kosovo. #Crimea is not #Croatia. The invasion of Crimea and the “uprising” in #Donbas was started by Russian Army troops out of uniform, as punishment for #Euromaidan and the desire of the majority of Ukraine to build stronger ties with the #EU and the west. There was no oppression of Russian language or culture in Ukraine, and in fact most of the broadcast media in eastern Ukraine came from Russia...
9/
@faab64 @lazarukb @wherephysicswentwrong@universeodon.com
... and Russian was an official "regional language" which allowed its use in courts and schools and government.
So that’s the real history of this conflict. #Russia sees #Ukraine as “Russian clay” and will do everything in their power to dominate and suppress Ukraine and her culture. Ukraine has the right to say “no F-U Russia” and go their own way, and WE have the right to support them in their fight against domination by a #fascist power.

@faab64 @lazarukb @wherephysicswentwrong@universeodon.com
Our history of imperialism in the #US is abhorrent, but that doesn’t mean that anything and everything we do is evil by default. And any peace negotiated now that doesn’t include #Russia’s complete withdrawal from #Donbas and #Crimea is an admission that #Putin can do whatever he pleases. Appeasement is not the answer and will just encourage #Putin to continue his dreams of recreating the #USSR (see #Chechnya, #SouthOssetia, #Georgia, #Moldova etc.)
